The most complicated steering wheels in the world.
How technical can steering wheel be? It’s just left, right and maybe stereo controls. Perhaps cruise control if your car is so equipped. But in Formula 1, things are a bit more tricky. The steering wheels alone cost the price of a premium road car, and they’re immensely complicated.
Here, Formula 1 pundit James Allen, together with engineer Dominic Harlow, look at the difference between the 2013 and 2014 steering wheels on the Mercedes-AMG team cars. They then show how each driver – Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg – have different wheels even though they share the same car. There’s isn’t a road car in the world that can compete with the tech on show here.
