When Robert Kubica badly broke his arm in a violent rally accident in Italy, it shook Formula One to its core. The Polish wunderkind was sidelined for 2011, and on the eve of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix. Given the impressive pace of his then-Renault team during off-season testing, many believed 2012 would yield win number two for Robert.
Talk then picked up apace concerning his return and/or his retirement. Would he be at Abu Dhabi for a one-off run? Would he wait and return afresh for 2012? Or would he simply become the latest ‘what if’ F1 statistic?
This year Kubica chose the bench over Renault /Lotus, and still remains the Sword of Damacles over Felipe Massa’s 2013 Ferrari drive. The grapevine hints that a GP2 test is on the agenda soon. But some say he won’t be the same if he does return.
Why don’t you check out this footage of (apparently) Kubica’s return to the rally stages – incredible, right? – and tell us if you think he’s lost his touch. Also, bear in mind that in January he broke his leg too! >>>
