Peaking into the cabin, the simple and very rod inspired low backs, look great in the soft chestnut brown leather. I was half expecting tweed when I first walked around the car, however the leather works a treat. The dash is running a full set of Dakota digital gauges and Colorado Custom have got themselves everywhere, from the billet steering wheel the polished steering column and the rims outside (will get there in a bit).
Outlandish yet simple, modern yet retro. It’s a style that caught Saeed’s attention very quickly. “A classic will always be a classic and you can’t match that. But with this Ford, you have the convenience of the modern car and the look and feel of the classic car. It’s a match made in heaven.”
There’s vented, cross-drilled discs in each corner and the wheels are Colorado Custom billet pieces wearing 225/45/17 front and 295/45/18 rear BF Goodrich T/A radials at the front and rear respectively.
We do have to question though what is hanging from the rear view mirror….
“That’s the Al Capone look! Both Dave and my brother were trying to convince me to put furry dice in the car, and I said no. This is a classic and they will destroy the look. Turns out they were right!”
After nearly a week of discussion, red and white polka dot furry dice was the final choice from four candidates. And no, we’re not joking!
The full custom chassis has been subjected to the same stunning red as the body and up front consists of a set of tubular A-arms with a full Air Ride system…
…while out back is the rodders favourite; the Ford the 9-inch. Mounted up to an old school motorsport inspired 3-link arrangement, there is also the Air Ride set-up and custom built trailing arms making their way around the chassis perfectly.
Clearly the guys who built the ’39 have put a lot of time and effort into creating the Ford’s character, and Saeed is not interested in changing that.
“I’m no going to touch anything. Maybe under the car I will chrome parts of the chassis, just to make it look slicker from underneath. But it terms of the body itself and the interior, I will not touch anything. I love it the way it is and think any big changes would just ruin the car.
“I’ve actually bought some proper American 1930s clothes to wear on my next trip in the car. I’ll be fully suited up, and that’s part of the whole experience. It’s not just about driving a ‘39 Ford, it’s about being one with it too.”
