No surprise then that karting plays a big part in the new motorsport calendar alongside the confirmed UAE Touring Car, UAE GT, Radical Winter Cup and the Formula Gulf 1000 race weekends, with the first of eight confirmed karting events at the Dubai Autodrome confirmed for 28 September. This is followed two weeks later by the first of four endurance kart races.

The UAE Touring Cars, which kicks off on 19 October, will retain its established two 20 minute race format throughout 2012/2013. The Class 1 and 2 category structure also remains intact and will this year run alongside Classes 3, 4 and 5, which comply to GTA, GTB and GTC technical regulations respectively. Class 6 however makes its DAMC debut this season, and caters to closed wheel Challenge Cup-spec machinery. The 2012-2012 DAMC incoporates eight weekends with the finale set to take place on 19 April at the Dubai Autodrome.

The Formula Gulf 1000 single seater series also makes its return for the upcoming season after an inaugural run last year. Series officials are hoping the low cost ‘arrive and drive’ format of the series will encourage kart racers to take ther first steps towards a fully-fledged motorsport career.

Also returning to action at the Dubai Autodrome this year is the UAE Radical Winter Cup Series, which will continue its traditional two 45-minute race format. The series has in the past encouraged European drivers to compete in the Middle East, and hopes are high this will continue in 2013.
