2013 Aston Martin DB9. A New Look For Genesis

Since its launch in 2004, the DB9 has been the model for all Aston Martin products that have since rolled off the assembly line. Stack them up side-by-side – the Rapide, the Vanquish, the Vantage, the Virage (the production of which has now ceased), and even the Cygnetand each will boast signs of its DB9 DNA.

Since the turn of the decade though, the argument has raged that enough is enough, and that Aston Martin should find a new look. Or, as the opposing viewpoint goes, why fix what ain’t broke? No doubt the British marque will be hoping then that the new-for-2013 DB9 will find a solid middle ground between these points of view.

Okay, so aesthetically, the boys and girls at the Aston drawing boards have not made leaps and bounds in one direction or the other. There’s no denying though that the new coupe – with its angular bodylines, new bonnet vents and redesigned front grille and rear spoiler lip – is a seriously good looking piece of kit. And even if you’re sitting on the fence, a Volante version will be sold alongside its hardtop Coupe counterpart to help tweak your interest.

Engineering features of note include the 510bhp AM11 V12, six-speed transmission and limited slip differential, all good for a 4.6s 0-100kph time and a 295kph top speed. Take a quick glance at the chassis and we’ll also find a new Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) braking system, adaptive damping system (which can be configured to meet ride height requirements for sport and track driving) and a lowered engine for better weight distribution.
