I’m running late for the launch of Cadillac’s new-for-2013 XTS. Ridiculously late in fact, a point that is only truly hammered home when I arrive at the venue – out of breath and with a sheepish expression on my face – just in time to hear the following:

Fortunately, the Cadillac PR team – who are now trying hard not to snigger at my embarrassment – are the only ones who have seen me arrive. And since I haven’t had to trip over anybody else to find a seat for the pre-drive media briefing, it’s feasible nobody else knows I’ve missed most of the presentation. Even as our group moves towards the XTS fleet waiting outside, there are no exasperated shakes of the head or knowing smirks thrown my way by my colleagues. Perhaps, if I keep my head down and look like I’ve been here all along, I might just get away with it…
