The start all comes down to the Christmas Tree, which signals (with varying sets of amber lights) when the front wheels are approaching the startline (Pre-stage), when the front wheels are on the startline (Stage), and when the driver should mash it (green). Timing is everything here, and a good reaction time is anything below 0.3s.

As I’ve already discovered, the IS F – given the 416hp at play – can be a bit tail-happy: astonishingly good fun when there’s room to manoeuvre, but slightly hair-raising when the concrete wall is just four-feet away. The amount of grip through the tyres though – plus the sticky TrackBite resin currently coated on the track surface – is proving vital, and I figure I’ll be a touch more ambitious on the second run.
