On-board footage from Leh Keen’s Fambacher Racing Porsche 997 GT3 R shows the moment the rain that halted this year’s Nurburgring 24 Hours began to fall.
This year’s Nurburgring 24 Hours will likely be remembered for three things: the first event victory for Mercedes-Benz; a late-race charge by BMW driver Maxime Martin that netted second place on the penultimate tour; and rain, the likes of which the event has never seen before.
Heavy rain that sprung during the night reduced visibility for competitors to zero, and with GT cars by the bucketload aquaplaning off-track, race officials flew the red flag just hours into the endurance race. It would be another nine hours before the action could begin again.
Leh Keen shared the #17 Fambacher Racing Porsche 997 GT3 R with teammates Christina Nielsen, Tomas Pivoda and Phillipp Frommenwiler. As if driving on the most gruelling circuit in the world wasn’t tough enough, on-board footage shows the American navigating the 20km Nordschleife as the rain begins to fall: check out the oversteer and counter steer.
Witness Leh Keen’s ‘Rain Dance’. And a pretty awesome Porsche soundtrack too at full beans.
