The figures are out. The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will be the most powerful car from General Motors ever. Boom!
[Not a valid template]It’s no secret that the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was rumoured to be a mind-bogglingly powerful car, but with the official power figures having been released, the inevitable comparisons can begin.
The Z06’s LT4 supercharged 6.2-litre V-8 engine is SAE-certified at 650hp at 6,400rpm and 650lb-ft of torque at 3600rpm. According to these figures, the Z06 will eclipse the Ferrari F12berlinetta with 28 per cent more torque, while also beating its competition from Stuttgart (the Porsche 911 Turbo S) by 90hp and 134 lb-ft of torque. Interestingly, our man Phil noted that the output stills fall short of the 2013 Shelby GT500 Mustang by 12hp.
To attain these figures, the LT4 benefits from lightweight titanium intake valves, forged steel connecting rods, forged aluminium pistons and stainless steel exhaust manifolds. In addition, the forced induction comes by way of a new 1.7-litre supercharger. It is matched with a standard seven-speed manual transmission or an all-new, paddle-shift eight-speed automatic transmission.
Expected to go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2014, if the figures are anything to go by, the Corvette Z06 will be a car to watch out for.
