Aston Martin unveils new 595bhp Vanquish S with carbon fibre detailing. A LOT of carbon fibre detailing…
Just so you’re completely up to speed, the naturally aspirated 6-litre V12 in Aston Martin’s new Vanquish S produces 595bhp and 630 Nm (465 lb ft) of torque. That’s 27bhp up on the established Vanquish, and enough for a 3.5 second 0-100kph time – a tenth quicker – and a 324kph top speed. Granted that 27bhp on paper may not sound like much, but Aston has confirmed that tweaks to the V12 – a precursor to the 5.9-litre turbocharged unit found in the new DB11 – include redesigned and larger inlet manifolds, which push more air into the engine than before and thus deliver a stronger throttle response. It also means Aston’s latest sports coupe is on par (give or take) with the 597bhp Ferrari 458 Speciale.
Or at least, that’s the case in the UK and Europe, since power across the rest of the globe will be pegged at 588bhp.
Completing the drivetrain is an eight-speed Touchtronic III automatic transmission, updated to offer faster shifts over the standard Vanquish. Tautened double wishbone suspension for improved road holding complete the mechanical revisions, though the design that goes over the top of it has also received a new, more menacing look.
Heavy-use of carbon fibre can be found around the new front splitter with a large, wide air intake, flanked by two carbon-fibre blades, as well as the new rear diffuser and quad exhaust system. Carbon fibre enthusiasts among you can also option this on bonnet louvres, mirrors, roof and a new honeycomb mesh grille, but possibly the most eye-catching exterior design tweak are the new 20in five spoke diamond cut wheels. Inside, alongside some choice ‘S’ badges, customers can enjoy new ‘Filograph’ quilted leather, and, yes, carbon fibre detailing around the centre console.
Price? Unsurprisingly, it’s a whopper, with both Coupe and Volante body styles starting from $248,300. That’s $8500 more than a standard Vanquish.
