Mercedes-Benz have finally finally dropped the full batch of details and photos of its latest flagship; the SLS AMG Roadster.

The same AMG 6.3-liter V8 front-mid engine , dry sumped power horse is tucked under that loooong bonnet. Developing a peak output of 563hp and 479 pound-feet of torque, mixed with the familiar seven-speed dual clutch transmission, means it will undoubtedly still have that sonorous sting in it’s tail.

However those love or hate doors have now gone. Replaced with normal doors and what Mercedes is calling a compact fabric soft top, that opens up in eleven seconds.

We at crankandpiston get the reason behind the drop top, from both a commercial perspective and an engineering perspective.  Yes, it is totally stunning and no we won’t complain when we are full chat with the roof down. However the tin top is where it’s at.  In our opinion of course.
