BMW ALPINA: 20 year hiatus ends

This a first for me on crankandpiston so I thought some good impact was in order – As part of the benefit of running X-Sport groupI get to travel to some pretty cool destinations and get to watch some great racing. So, first up is my fly away trip to Silverstone for the opening round of the GT3 Championship….

The race at Silverstone was the first official race meeting for the eye-catching lime green BMW ALPINA B6 GT3. I was lucky enough to be working with the guys from Alpina all weekend and can safely say the car is awesome! Now in its fourth season, the FIA GT3 European Championship is one of the most cost effective racing series where you can see some of world’s leading GT cars, twelve races on six of the world’s leading race circuits.

The engine in the Alpina is lifted direct from the road version, but with a few air flow mods obviously. Meaning 100Kmh is dispatched in 3.8 seconds and the supercharged 4.4ltr V8 with 530 bhp, tops out around 177 mph.

Alpina has a great line up, in the car here is German uber race chick Claudia Hürtgen with Hungarian rookie driver Csaba Walter looking on in anticipation.
