So, it’s travel time again and thanks to Audi Middle East we had the pleasure of getting our trip bag out of the cupboard, carefully selecting some airplane/travel reading, grabbing the right clothes (a quick check of the BBC revealed the weather was going to be lovely) and then getting ourselves to the airport. The biggest challenge faced every time I travel is ensuring that I’ve got it right and haven’t stepped out of the door forgetting something important.  As you can see from the pic above I travel pretty light, so as long as the Mac, Passport, Wallet and associated charges are on board… we can survive!

Our beautiful European destination had one downside!  A late night departure from the hot, humid and sticky environment that is Dubai International Airport.  In case you are unaware, flights aren’t allowed to land in main land Europe until after 6am, so a 1.35am departure time made the day prior to flying a long one.

We arrived bright and early into Zurich airport after a surprisingly comfortable flight, met up with the rest of the group and all piled into the VW Caravelle that was sat waiting for us outside the arrival hall. Brent Black from Virgin Radio Dubai was on the trip, so at least there would be a light hearted angle to keep me awake!

As we arrived into Zurich, the morning was just getting into full swing… a beautiful and welcome change to the hustle and bustle of Dubai.

Just prior to rocking up at the first hotel, this Porsche 997 Turbo polled up alongside us… couldn’t be any more apt in Switzerland could it?!

My bed for a couple of hours!  After the late night and the usual poor nights sleep on an airplane, the comfy bed of the Park Hyatt was a welcome spot. I had 4 hours to get charged and then it was off out for a rather special tour of a piece of Swiss history.

Slept and charged, I was ready for the afternoons activities.  So with my light device in hand, we headed off in convoy. As with every trip/town that I visit, it was time to start grabbing some shots of cars that were dotted around. First up… a Techart Panamera.

Ah yes, we digress!  The tour… welcome to the Lindt Chocolate factory. From what we were led to believe, having access to the factory is a bit on the special side, as generally public peeps like you and I are not allowed behind the very secrative gates of this world class chocolatier. Since its historic beginnings in the 19th century Lindt & Sprungli have been at the cutting edge of luxury chocolate… and today, we were going in to see how it all happens!  Cameras at the ready… however I was strictly told not to snap anything that could give anything away… so let’s hope I succeeded.

The obligatory clean-up was required, so after a wash down worthy of a surgeon, some tasty over clothes and shower cap, (beautifully modeled by Brent) we were all systems go and ready for a chocolate fest!

After being completely blown away by the production process I was surprised to see the fail safe stash! Yes the machines that have been implemented in the process have removed the need for a lot of manual labor, (they can now concentrate on making more types of yummy chocolate) there still needs to be a pile of chocs at the end of the line ready to fill in the holes as such. Can you imagine being faced with that on a daily basis though?!

So as the tour came to an end and the kind people at Lindt waved us farewell (with a massive goodie bag I might add) , we stumbled/rolled across the carpark into this… A brand sell out, yes… bad ass, yes! A Ferrari branded Fiat 500…come on guys!

Day 2 is heading towards us very rapidly.  So time to hit the sack and prepare for a day of driving the all new Audi Q3.
