Lebanese racing teammates Joe Ghanem and Tani Hanna competed in the European Maserati Trofeo series in Valencia, Spain last weekend. In their first time behind the wheel of the Maserati MC Trofeo race car in a race situation, both drivers performed extremely well in competitive conditions.

Racing rookie Tani Hanna qualified in 13th position in a field of 17 cars, and finished Race 1 in a strong 9th position after the gruelling 40-minute race. It was the first time the 47-year old businessman had raced on a circuit, so was understandably very happy with his result. “I came here to learn the car and prepare myself for the upcoming Maserati Trofeo JBF RAK series. I practically have zero race experience, so my biggest challenge was to get used to the car and stay in the race until the end. Finishing 9th was a great achievement for me.”

21-year old Joe Ghanem found his feet quickly in the Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo car and secured a qualification time for Race 2 of 1:44.694. This would have put him on the second row of the grid in 3rd position, however he was relegated to 16th place after having to change tyres before the race.
However, Joe put on an excellent show of overtaking on the tight and technical 4km-long Valencia circuit and finished the race in 5th position. “I had a great start to the race and had a few laps full of exciting overtakes. My strategy was to stay clean and push in the last 15 minutes of the race, but after the fights at the beginning I had to battle to maintain my position until the chequered flag.”

Both Tani and Joe will be competing in the Maserati Trofeo JBF RAK series which begins this November with racing taking place at circuits across the Middle East. Umberto Cini, Managing Director of Maserati Middle East & Africa, is looking forward to the series arriving in the region. “We’re just two months away from the start of the Maserati Trofeo JBF RAK series and I expect to see some great racing throughout the season. Joe and Tani put on a spectacular performance during their time in Valencia and I can’t wait to see them racing alongside the rest of the field here in the Middle East.”
The Maserati Trofeo JBF RAK series is open to anyone with an interest in motorsport – even if they have never raced before.
An all-inclusive package is offered to drivers that will provide a hassle-free racing experience that covers all costs involved in racing. The series will see 12 mechanically-identical Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo race cars compete over a number of races at the Middle East’s most prestigious circuits.
