As I cruised home with my wife and children last night after a great afternoon with friends we managed to get ourselves snarled up in what looked like a large cavalcade of vehicles moving very slowly in the Emirates Road.

As we slowly wandered down the inside lane wondering whether overtaking a bunch of police cars with their lights on was a good idea, I noticed that it was in fact a massive car cruise. Not just any cruise but a Corvette owners club cruise.

The Corvette Owners Club was founded in early 2007 and to this day continues to be managed by a close knit group of dedicated board members that act and behave like a family!

The club’s slogan is ” DRIVING FOR GOOD” and is heavily supported throughout the club and the local community sponsors that back the club. The main aim is to continually encourage the automotive community to be aware of the importance of safety while driving. It is almost and oxymoron in this region, but great that they are doing all they can to make it happen.

Rather amazingly for a group of owners that drive some of the most powerful street cars around the black strips of Dubai that this is the first and as far as I can work out, the only auto club that revokes illegal street racing, speeding and burnouts. To help this along they have a great man backing their cause out on the race track in the form of Mohammed Al Falasi. As you can see above his car is still street legal!

There is something cool about these old skool Vettes. I know they have come on a long way since in terms of pace and driving dynamics, however I reckon it would still be a laugh a minute to drive.
