One of the Management Fleet’s most pivotal jobs involves acting as workhorse on photo shoots. You may remember that our digital chaps waxed lyrical about the Focus’s handling, space and comfort during a particularly arduous period for them. Recently though another photo shoot – in the Hajar mountain range – gave us the opportunity to up the ante a touch for the hatchback’s next real world challenge.

These pictures alone should paint the scene for you nicely. Not only would the Focus have to lug around crew members and equipment in comfort, it would also be called upon to travel smoothly so as not to disrupt shots being taken by the dolly mounted (carefully) on the bonnet, and deliver a decent burst of speed, since time is almost always an issue.

Now this may seem a bit of a tall ask for a hatchback. But as the Focus has proven to us over the previous few weeks, cabin space is very good, the handling is solid, and – when prompted – the Ford can deliver some rather surprising bursts of speed. The way the revs briefly continue to rise even after the accelerator has stopped being pushed raised an eyebrow here or there. But once again, the Focus proved its tenacity.

I’ll put it this way. After a full day shooting in mid-40 degree temperatures, only the Focus was left standing from the crankandpiston team.
