Yes, the GT-R goes like stink. But what is it like to live with on a day-to-day basis? That’s where crankandpiston follower Nick Jollie comes in.
Nick only bought his 2009-model GT-R at the beginning of the year, but has known for quite some time that he would one day own one.

“I’d always wanted a GT-R…well, actually, I always wanted a Skyline GT-R, ever since I used to race them on the Xbox while growing up! The legacy is one of the main selling points, isn’t it? Back then it was a car that did 0-100kph in 4.5s – ridiculously fast! – and can now do it in 3.4s, or something like that. Just insane speed, and I found that amazing!

Undoubtedly the Nissan GT-R – with its sizeable oomph and muscle car character – has found a solid foothold in the Middle East. And though large numbers continue to roll off the production line year-on-year, the model’s popularity makes tracking down one of good quality harder than you may think, as Nick ably discovered.
“Finding the right GT-R was hard. I tried Automart, on dubizzle.com, and I went up to the Al Aweer used car market. I looked everywhere but wasn’t massively impressed with what I found. So I put up a ‘Wanted’ add, and an Emirati gentleman who’d owned his from new contacted me and said, ‘do you want to have a look at mine? I’m thinking of selling it’.
“He brought it round for a test drive, and I remember driving it quite gingerly. My previous car had been a Honda Civic Type R, so it was a big step-up from that both financially and in terms of performance. I was a bit nervous to put my foot down! But that was the one I ended up buying.”
