As is customary with most grand unveils, proceedings kicked off with speeches from the company directors, and focus on global goals for the new model. This was followed, much to the fascination (nay bemusement) of the assembled masses, by a contortionist act. Powered by a 4.7-litre V8 (run alongside a six-speed automatic MC Shift gearbox), the new Maserati is an evolution of the sister GranTurismo S, albeit with a tad more oomph as the 4.8s 0-100kph time and 298kph top speed would suggest. Despite the open stretch of tarmac just in front of the showroom, the Maserati PR team ‘would rather [we] didn’t’ test these figures out on the night.
