It’s the final lap of the NASCAR Sprint Cup‘s Good Sam Roadside Assistance 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. All the cars are bunched up for a desperate race to the finish after a caution period. A win could be crucial for the championship. What do you think happens?

Yes, that’s right  – a massive crash. Reigning champion Tony Stewart lost control, got airborne and caused a 25-car pile up that’s reignited debate over the wisdom of racing at such speeds on oval circuit, and particularly at Talladega, which has a reputation for carnage. Thankfully, no one was hurt on this occasion.

12 drivers are in the hunt for the Chase for the Sprint Cup, as the series nears its climax. Ten were collected by the Talladega accident, leaving only Matt Kenseth – who won – and Jeff Gordon, who finished second. Brad Keselowski leads the Chase with six races left.
