crankandpiston.com is heading back to Spa-Franchorchamps and the historic racing scene this weekend, with Jonathan Szczupak – much as he did last year – pointing camera lens and drooling mouth at the classic Formula 1 and GT machinery during the Spa Six Hours.
[Not a valid template]Across the 20-22 September weekend, up to 600 cars will take to the track in 20 different races during, including FIA Masters Historic Formula 1 Championship, Masters Touring cars, the Woodcote and Stirling Moss Trophies, and of course the Spa Six Hours. Said races – which include practice and qualifying sessions as well as several dozen thousand fans lining the grandstands – will include a host of spectacularly prepped classic cars from a broad range of manufacturers, thanks to input and support from the MG Owners’ Club, The Porsche Club of Great Britain, The Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club and the VW Split Screen Van Club. Take a look at the entry list for this weekend, and you’ll begin to understand the excitement.
Fan favourites such as the Ford GT40, Jaguar E-Type, Shelby Mustang and the Lotus Elan line up alongside less celebrated but no less desirable examples such as Reliant Sabre Six, TVR Grantura and the Aston Martin DB4 GT. The Spa Six Hours also includes some other familiar faces. Motoring big wigs Chris Harris (who also took on this year’s Mille Miglia) and Andrew Frankel will team up with Richard Frankel in a Ford Falcon, while former Formula 1 driver Jan Lammers takes on Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport driving detail with Michiel Campagne and Allard Kalff.
Fresh from an impressive, nut-shrivelling run on a sodden Goodwood circuit, 1999 Indy 500 winner Kenny Brack gets back behind the wheel of a Ford GT40 alongside Christian Glasel.
