The new Peugeot RCZ R is powered by a 1.6-litre THP turbocharged petrol engine that kicks out 270bhp, meaning the sport coupe will hit 0-100kph in 5.9 seconds and power onto an electronically limited top speed of 250kph. Power is transferred to the road via a specially strengthened six-speed transmission. The model has also received an uprated clutch, larger intercooler and new twin-scroll turbocharger to produce a marque topping performance figure. The exhaust system has also been updated, it now featuring a ‘sound system’ that amplifies the engine notes for sportier character.

Boasting 170bhp per litre, only Peugeot’s RCZ Racing Cup car provides equivalent performance. Maximum power is achieved at 6000rpm, while maximum torque of 243lb ft is utilised from 1900-5500rpm

Performance is further amplified by revised dampers settings, increased stiffness in the springs and anti-roll bar, a wider front and rear track for improved traction, and a new fixed boot spoiler for greater aerodynamics. The RCZ R also sits on two-tone 19-inch alloy wheels shod with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 235/40 R19 tyres for extra grip.

The previous sporty Peugeots to make the crankandpiston.com news feed was the 208 T16 piloted by nine-time world rally champion Sebastien Loeb at the famous Pikes Peak International Hillclimb, and the new 270bhp 308 R Concept.
