We celebrate Aston Martin Racing’s 10th anniversary with some awesome images.
[Not a valid template]Four Vantage GT4s lined up for the first round of the FIA World Endurance Championship at Silverstone this past weekend, and in doing so cemented a decade of competition for Aston Martin Racing.
From its humble beginnings with the DBR9 in 2004, AMR quickly set about the company’s 101-year history by quickly nailing victory and podiums at ’05 12 Hours of Sebring, and Le Mans, GT class victory coming in 2008. Come 2009 though, with the GT scene conquered, the powers that be decided that a return to the top step at Le Mans for the first time since 1959 was called for. Step forward the DBR1-2 prototype.
Ultimately outright 24 Hours of Le Mans victory eluded Aston Martin, fourth place in 2009 the company’s high-point against a sea of DNFs and accident damage. In 2012, the decision was made t step back to GT racing (in deference to the company’s heritage), a decision that paid dividends with ten hours in the lead at the prestigious Nürburgring 24 Hours in 2013, only for herculean amounts of rain to put paid to a dream result.
This year’s celebrations got off to a good start with second in GT class for Darryl O’Young, Alex MacDowall and former GTE-Am champion Fernando Rees. But enough history. Slow-mo video time…
