BMW has confirmed that an exclusive, special-edition version of the current fifth generation M5 will be produced in a limited run of 300 vehicles worldwide. The BMW M5 “30 Jahre M5” (30 years of the M5) will not only be the most powerful M5 production model but also the most powerful car in the history of the brand.
The BMW M5 “30 Jahre M5” uses the Competition Package as the foundation for the upgrades and power has been increased by 40hp over the standard M5. The 4.4-litre V8 with M TwinPower Turbo in the 30 Jahre M5 now develops 600hp and peak torque of 700Nm which will shift its considerable mass from 0-100kph in just 3.9 seconds. The Competition Package also provides a revised chassis set-up with firmer spring/damper tuning and a ten millimetre drop.
Available in the “softly shimmering” Frozen Dark Silver metallic paint scheme with numerous fancy badges (to remind everyone how exclusive it is) the desirability of the 30 Jahre M5 will probably be off the hook. However, you’re best waiting until BMW announce pricing details before counting those Bavarian chickens. Exclusivity rarely comes cheap.
