The 1957 Ferrari 625/250 TRC you are looking at – chassis #0672 – is the most successful ever to have competed on-track. In just over 50 races (“as far as we can tell”), #0672 took 25 victories, including victories at the Grand Prix of Mexico and races in Laguna Seca, Salt Lake City, Riverside, Nassau, Santa Barbara, Palm Springs, Pomona, Sacramento. Even the F2004 chassis 239 that secured Michael Schumacher a runaway final Formula 1 World Championship ‘only’ took nine victories.
So what makes #0672 so special? Ordered direct from Ferrari in 1957 by John von Neumann, the 625/250 TRC was fitted with 2.5-litre ex-Le Mans four-cylinders until Ferrari’s new V12 250TR engine was squeezed. Sold in 1961, #0672 continued winning against stellar competition into 1962 thanks to its aerodynamic prowess and ferocious power.
