The new Porsche 919 Hybrid will begin development work at the Yas Marina Circuit tomorrow ahead of the 2015 World Endurance Championship.
[Not a valid template]The new 919 Hybrid – an evolution of the design used in 2014 – made its inaugural run at the team’s official test track in Weissach but its Abu Dhabi jaunt is just the second of several performance and endurance tests to come ahead of the first round of the WEC season at Silverstone on April 12.
The only details released so far concern the prototype’s powertrain, which consists of a 2-litre V4 turbocharged petrol engine supplemented by an electric motor powering the front wheels, and two energy recovery systems. The same unit was used for Porsche’s WEC LMP1 debut, and its first start at the 24 Hours of Le Mans since 1998. The 2014 season ended with Porsche’s first victory at the 6 Hours of Sâo Paulo with drivers Marc Lieb, Romain Dumas and Neel Jani.
