Morgan unveils fifth generation Aero 8, the most refined example of the model line yet.
[Not a valid template]Not wanting to be overshadowed by the latest from fellow Brits Bentley, McLaren and Aston Martin – as well as motor show favourites Porsche and Lamborghini – the Morgan Motor Company has been causing a stir all of its own at this year’s Geneva Motor Show courtesy of the new Aero 8.
Now into its fifth generation since the Aero 8’s first appearance in 2000, Morgan has set out to make this the most refined example yet.
Boasting the charmingly indicative Morgan design, influence for the new Aero 8 has been taken from classic sports cars from the 1960s, hence the soft-top roof. Forget unclip and pull back though, the new double-lined mohair hood comes complete with a tricky rear opening clam shell boot lid we’re guessing will look awesome in the flesh. As well as low slung carbon seats and a leather-clad new interior, a new air conditioning system also makes its debut.
Of particular note though is the 367bhp 4.8 litre V8 from BMW belted down under that enormous bonnet, which can be mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or automatic with paddle shifters. Other performance updates include a more rigid aluminium chassis, all-new suspension, anti-roll bars and a limited slip diff from Beemer, all designed to make the new Aero 8 amongst the best handling Morgans yet. Production is set to begin later this year.
And let’s be honest, if the above images and below video are anything to go by, it’s already one of the best looking.
