Alex from XCAR ponders the Tesla Model S. Can it really be an acceptable substitute for a combustion-powered executive saloon?
A few years ago we tried the Tesla Roadster. It was essentially a Lotus with a battery, and not what we’d call luxurious, but it was a tantalising glimpse of what was possible with electric power when it comes to performance.
The man behind Tesla, Elon Musk, ploughed the proceeds from the Roadster in to a new car, the Model S, which is a very different proposition – it’s a practical, but performance-biased saloon capable of carrying passengers and their stuff over longer distances.
Alex Goy from XCAR has been out in the Tesla Model S and pondering its impact on the automotive world as we know it. Is this really the shape of things to come?
