Here comes a new contender!
After four years of development, there’s a new console car racing game seeking to take on the established excellence of Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport.
We’ve talked about Project CARS several times before, but this week we finally get to see if the hype is justified – the game is released from May 7.
The game features more than 70 cars at launch and more than 100 race tracks, and is intended to be a realistic simulation rather than an over-the-top action game. Unlike Forza and Gran Tursimo, you can use all the cars and all the tracks straight away – no messing around for months trying to unlock the good stuff.
Unusually, Project CARS was funded by the gaming community and developers rather than with cash from a publisher, which means many of those that helped finance its development will get a share of the profits.
Project CARS will be released on Playstation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows first, with versions on Steam and Linux due to follow later this year. Will it be any good? We damn well hope so, as judging by the launch trailer it’s reaaaal pretty.
