BMW unveils brand new 3.0 CSL Hommage at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este show in Italy.

What you’re looking at here has yet to make production, but any hardcore Beemer fan will be crossing everything in the hope that the new 3.0 CSL Hommage will one day be given the green light.
As you can probably imagine, the Hommage is a tribute to BMW’s iconic 3.0 CSL from the 1970s, albeit one with stuffed with the modern technology and demonic looks now familiar with Beemer’s i-brand. The bodywork for instance is all carbon fibre, while the base – strange as this may seem – is based on the M4, while under the bonnet lies a six-cylinder eBoost.
Though the Hommage, which made its debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este show in Italy, is based on the original 3.0’s focus on lightness. The interior has been stripped of all but the basics and the exterior design has been moulded primarily for aerodynamic efficiency, which is a rather mouth-watering prospect for future track editions, I’m sure you’ll agree. It’s claimed to be one of the lowest BMWs ever produced, boasts an enormous carbon fibre front splitter, and the team has even binned the mirrors in favour of wing mounted cameras. The whole package runs atop black 21-inch alloys.
The unveil has already led many to speculate that the ‘CSL’ name – which stands for coupé, sport, lightweight – may be about to return to BMW models sometime soon…
