Next year’s Land Rover LR5 will get a makeover from the company’s Special Vehicle Operations division.
A new Land Rover LR5 is due to drop next year, also known as the Discovery 5. As we’ve come to expect from Land Rover, it’ll likely be extremely competent on and off-road, but the company’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) department is planning something even more funky.
According to a report by the UK’s Autocar magazine, Land Rover is planning an SVX version of the LR5 that takes the car’s off-road abilities to a new level. The all-new LR5 is due for a release in 2016, and the SVX version will likely follow between a year and 18 months later. SVO has thus-far focused on limited and special edition machines like the Paul Smith Defender and Range Rover Sport SVR, but Land Rover has always intended it to push boundaries in capability and luxury.
In an interview with Autocar, SVO boss John Edwards specifically mentioned the Middle East’s appetite for vehicles that can deal with extreme sand. With a long established tradition among owners of making Land Rovers as extreme as can be, we’re expecting something pretty awesome.
The new LR5 will likely look very similar to the Discovery Vision Concept, pictured above.
