Kia has promised to launch its first sports car model by 2020, UK managing director Paul Philpott has told Autocar.
[Not a valid template]Now, we all love a good sports car, but would you buy a sports car donning a Kia badge?
Unfortunately, Paul didn’t divulge any in depth information about the upcoming model, so that’s an open question at the moment, but had revealed that the model will come to market by the end of the decade.
Paul told the magazine that the model will be sold worldwide, to warrant its production.
Sports car concepts revealed by the manufacturer in the past have included the GT and Stinger GT4.
The GT is a four-seater sports sedan, with a short front overhang, extended bonnet and long wheelbase, and is the first Kia concept car to feature rear-wheel drive. The Stinger GT4 is along the same lines with rear-wheel drive and gets a tuned version of Kia’s 2.0-litre turbocharged gasoline direct injected (T-GDI) four-cylinder engine, putting out 315hp.
