It seems to have been an absolute age since we last spoke about the crankandpiston VW Golf GTi race car. So, to fix that I popped into Polimar in Dubai, grabbed a quick shot and thought I’d write something to help remind ourselves what the little German touring car was up to.
As you can see, Sacco and the team have been beavering away getting it straightened up after I well and truly bent it when I thought It’d be a good idea to take a detour across the track and into the wall at Yas Marina during the middle of last season.
After deciding to ditch the one off attempt at a wideboy kit pretty much as soon as I stepped from the wreckage and looked back, I made contact with AmD in the UK who have just successfully run their first year in British Touring Cars with a MkV GTi – So who better to talk to then, right!
They came up trumps with the bits and some extra go faster items along the way and it was at that stage that I handed the hulk of metal and the plastic bits over to Polimar.
It isn’t far off at all now and we will be getting into a position that it can turn a hot lap very soon. Whether we actually go racing or start to hand over the car to you lucky readers to hack around is a thought process we are still going through.

Love the blue wrap on the front. What colour code is it? Looks similar to the 20th Anniv. Jazz blue.
