Now you will have to forgive me here as this particular piece is probably going to rank as a nasty piece of journalistic skill. Firstly I don’t really know a great deal about the car and secondly I am making huge assumptions! The car in question belongs to the guys at AXIS Engineering based here in Dubai and has the been the centre of a lot of internet chunter over the last couple of months on the run up to the first round of the UAE GT Championship.
Without going into to much detail Chris and Steve ( and Team) ran a couple of rice spec car last year…Skyline and EVO respectively and decided early on that for this year they would go all out with a proper factory built (per say) race car.Here is the gues work…From what I know the car in question is a Viper GTS-R that was developed in conjunction with Chrysler of North America, Oreca of France, and Reynard Motorsport of the United Kingdom…Pretty friggin cool so far right?Click the photos to see the full gallery and story.

Chrysler believed that in order to adapt their car not only for North American but also European circuits, they would require outside assistance. An agreement was made with the French racing and engineering firm Oreca, who had many years of experience in sports car racing as well as assistance in the Mazda 787B’s win in the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Although Oreca would construct the cars, key elements would come from British engineering firm Reynard Motorsport. This would mainly consist of the construction of the car’s basic chassis and other integral parts before they were shipped to Oreca for assembly. As for the Viper’s engine, it was ideally suited for competition at the time due to limits of 8000 cc being just beyond the Viper’s 7986 cc. Modifications were therefore light for the 356-T6 V10, with concentration on redesigned intakes for horsepower and reinforcements for endurance.
Chris and Steve have stuck to this tried and tested mentality and are running a stock lump up front. Not like it’s lacking in power!

The Viper was hugely successful on a global scale in racing terms and notched a great collection of wins…Overall, Vipers won the 24 Hours Nürburgring – 1999, 2001, 2002, The Rolex 24 at Daytona – 2000 and in terms of class wins, the 24 Hours of Le Mans – 1998, 1999, 2000, the 12 Hours of Sebring – 2000, Petit Le Mans – 1999, 1000km Fuji – 2001 and finally the Mil Milhas Brasileiras – 2004.
Not bad for a car that was initially pegged as being a useless foundation for a race car!!
