The “Old Girl” hasn’t been getting that much love recently! This has mostly been down to having a steady flow of press metal hawking through the office, so even though I love the big bad Merc a truck load, she has taken a back seat and sat patiently waiting in the underground car park, avoiding the dreaded Dubai dust.
Mind you not driving it has been driving me mad. You see, I have an active mind when it comes to my cars and continually and much to the frustration of my wife, dream of mods to add my personal blend of herbs and spices across it. This thought process is accelerated if said vehicle sits and looks forlornly at me every time I walk past it to some other piece of modern metal.
First and second on that list currently resides a stiff wack with a lowering stick and a set of OEM styled rims with a bit of a phat lip. Now I can hear the purists screaming here but a severe drop in the ride height and a set of late model AMG wheels would really suit it. I know because Photoshop tells me!
Yes I agree the Evolution wheels are sexy but they will more than likely find a very happy home on another superbly sexy W124 that we will be featuring very soon.
Next up on the list is a new steering wheel. The original has taken a bit of a beating from a mixture of the searing summer temps and someones penchant for aftershave ( I guess that’s what has broken down the material) driving the car in an earlier life. So a trip to Sharjah is in order to hunt down an E55 steering wheel from a W120 model and see whether we can get that working.
Finally and be no means least is the removal and re-fitment of the front bumper. It looks like over the years it has been nudged here and there and is now more than a touch out of alignment. I also need to hunt down a towing eye cover to fill the whole that is currently staring at you….followed by a lick of paint to bring her back to goodness.
So – keep an eye out over the coming weeks/months and see whether I actually pull my finger out and make it happen. You never know…a colour change might appear on the agenda too.

Do you use Gargash exclusively for the servicing? Do they know E500’s well. I am currently looking at a ’93 E500 here in Dubai but need a good inspection carried out, hopefuly this weekend. Have you had any issue with the one you bought here (not had time to read all your posts yet)
many thanks
