Strange that in a week where Lewis Hamilton became only the second Briton to claim three World Championships – and the first to claim two on the bounce – conversation mostly surrounded that day’s MotoGP event in Malaysia, a race where Valentino Rossi, for the first time in living memory, completely lost the plot.

Sete Gibernau, Jerez ‘05
Hard to believe it’s been 10 years, since Rossi’s clash with Sete Gibernau at the last corner of the 2005 Spanish Grand Prix is arguably the most famous of the great Italian’s indiscretions. Having started alongside each other on the front row (joined by Gibernau’s Honda teammate Marco Melandri), the duel for the lead was all about Rossi-Gibernau, even if the latter led all but three of the 27 laps.
