Mercedes unveils first AMG convertible version of its flagship S-Class model at the 2015 Dubai International Motor Show.

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the first ever AMG-spec convertible S-Class in the company’s 48-year history at the 2015 Dubai International Motor Show in the shape of the S 63 4MATIC Cabriolet.
Yes, that may all read like an oddly specific Guinness World Record, but there is some validity to this soft-top flagship alter-ego. Under the bonnet lies a 5.5-litre biturbo V8, which also powers both the new G-Wagen and the new 4×42. Power and torque – a gutload at 585hp and a rear-biased 900Nm (664lb ft) respectively – is sent to all four wheels to ensure a 3.9 second 0-100kph time – faster even than an Aston Martin Vanquish Volante – and a 250kph top speed. The biturbo V8 is mated with the established AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission.
Key elements of the design, once we’ve waded through the Mercedes marketing spiel at least, include a high-gloss black rear diffuser, silver chrome trim and twin tailpipes at the rear, while ‘newly developed’ AMG sports seats are the notable elements of the interior. Sharing the same platform as the S 63 Coupe, the ‘inherent weight increase for a cabriolet’ has been offset, moderately, by AMG light-alloy wheels and an aluminium-heavy rear end.
