I have been following a thread on a local Middle Eastern Car forum (www.dubaipetrolheads.com) the last couple of days that has been referring to a couple of Japanese driving Gods that made their way to Dubai to race in the Dubai 24hrs.
Said pilots being Taniguchi and Orido. I could say that not many people at the race would have known the pedigree of these two gents and just how heavily engrained in modern car culture they really are.
Taking Taniguchi as an example, it could be said that he is one of the best race drivers to ever come out of land of the rising sun. He has raced everything from the Taikyu series, GT500, small formulas and even Motorbikes. Not only that he has been at the forefront of the creation the D1 Grand prix and set numerous records in Japan with the HKS CT230 EVO time attack car.
And to quote Zlatko from Top Performance Magazine “His record of 53.4 seconds at Tsukuba is as legendary as his time attack wins and lap records held in Japan and abroad, including new best time at Buttonwillow last year. He is also a regular contender in the infamous Touge battles alongside Tsuchiya, Orido and the gang, a real racing celebrity”
So with all of that in mind I couldn’t help but post this video of the two legends skidding the tyres off through the mountains.
Enjoy the skill!
