MercedesAMG has unveiled its top-of-the-range GLC ahead of its debut at next week’s New York Motor Show.

The AMG-tuned model gets a 362bhp 3-litre bi-turbo V6 and features torque figures of 520Nm (384lb ft). With the powertrain completed with a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox sending power to all four wheels (albeit with a 31:69 percent rear-bias), new GLC 43 can sprint from 0-100kph in 4.9 seconds and hit an electronically limited top speed of 250kph. On paper at least, the power output suggests the GLC 43 is actually quicker than the Porsche Macan GTS and almost identical to the BMW X4 M40i, but more on that down the line when we get our greasy mitts on all three for a group test on home turf.

To further aid handling, the new AMG GLC 43 gets AMG Ride Control and Dynamic Select technology. The AMG Ride Control suspension meanwhile has been rejigged and gets three-modes to suit driving style (and can also be configured via the five-way AMG Dynamic Ride drive mode selector), while the brakes have also been upgraded. Exterior changes include new 19in five-spoke alloy wheels, finished in black, a black radiator grille, and black mirrors. In true AMG style, the GLC 43 also gets unique exhaust tailpipes. The cabin meanwhile receives new leather sports seats and sports steering wheel with red stitching.

The GLC 43 AMG is the latest unveil in a string of new Mercedes models to hit the motoring headlines, following in the wheel marks of the new E-Class, the SLC Roadster, the AMG C 43, and the C-Class cabriolet.
