Audi launches special edition R8 that pays tribute to the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring
[Not a valid template]The Audi R8 has its roots firmly in motorsport, being named after the car that took top honours four times at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. So it’s no great surprise to see Audi celebrate another legendary endurance race with its latest special edition: the Audi R8 Coupe V10 plus Selection 24h. It’s been built as a homage to the Audi R8 LMS race car, which won the 2015 24 Hours of the Nürburgring on its debut. In total, the various incarnations of the R8 LMS have amassed some 323 race wins around the world since 2009.
An appropriate 24 of the Selection 24h cars will be built. Speed freaks might be disappointed to discover that there are no extra horsepower goodies included – you’ll have to make do with the naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 pushing out 602bhp.
But for their $261,000, customers will get Audi‘s dynamic steering system, adaptive damping and laser lighting, as well as a special Suzuka grey paint finish that mirrors that found on the R8 LMS, as well as mythos black and Misano red highlights. There’s carbon fibre splashed liberally around the engine cover, diffuser and front bumper, and a 24h logo adorns each side blade. Inside, a serial number displays the limited edition number, from 1 to 24. Mmm, collectable…
