When you’re in the mood to celebrate something, what do you do? Drink a glass of champagne, wine, maybe eat something naughty… or do you drink a glass of milk? Nah, us neither.
The Indy 500 has long since had a tradition of celebrating the end of a race by drinking milk – yep, we know, odd, huh. Gotta give it to the Americans, though; it’s different to the boring norm.
Tradition is everything at this event. From the singing of “Back Home Again”, at the beginning of the race to the tradition of drinking milk to celebrate a win. Kicked off back in 1936 by Louis Meyer after his third Indy 500 victory, winners have been drinking milk to celebrate ever since. Not everyone follows the tradition, mind.
This weekend the 100th Indy 500 race is set to take place.
