Local racer Humaid al Masaood and Team HMR have packed their bags, headed into main land Europe and are competing in the SPEED EuroSeries, an FIA championship that is officially recognised as the feeder series to Le Mans and the Le Mans Series.  Humaid and the rest of Team HMR have serious ambition to race in Europe or the USA at the highest levels of Sport Prototype racing and will be using this experience as a stepping stone to the bigger prize.

The team landed a 5th place in the inaugural round of the SPEED EuroSeries 2011.  Each Championship round is 90 minutes and must involve at least one driver change.  The above shot is of hot shot Steven Kane aboard the Ligier as he takes the second stint in Race 1 in the Monster Energy backed car.  Despite nursing the stricken engine for most of the race, Team HMR still grabbed 5th place.

With an engine on the tick it was down to Tom Maplethorpe and the rest of  the crack squad of Team HMR engineers to competed a full engine change in 3 hours.  Sadly even though the change was done exceptionally quickly it was not quite quick enough to get out for the start of Race 2.

They did however manage to get the car out during the race which saw Steven Kane clock the fastest lap of the race , scoring a single, but potentially valuable point come year end.

Humaid al Masaood in Race 3, the 30 minute sprint race, turning into the flat out left hander at Signes with 3rd and 4th place cars chasing him down the Mistral Straight.
