LIVE STREAMING from 2016 Gymkhana GRiD with head Hoonigan himself Ken Block
As ways to spend a Sunday evening go, this – we’re sure you’ll agree – is quite a good one, as some of the best RallyCross drivers on the planet compete on the one of the most technical circuits in the world as part of the 2016 Gymkhana GRiD.
The GRiD, now into its fourth year, is the brainchild of inaugural winner Ken Block, whose Gymkhana videos first became a viral sensation in 2008 (Gymkhana Eight took place in our back yard in Dubai, and there’s already news of Climbkhana). The GRiD follows a similar setup, in which drivers must negotiate a high-speed precision driving course with a pre-determined sequence of drifts, figure 8s, donuts and slaloms across a 100m x 100m open space of asphalt called ‘the GRiD’. Paired up in All-Wheel Drive and Rear-Wheel Drive classes, each driver must compete in a tournament style head-to-head contest (two runs each) with the slower driver being eliminated. The all out winner takes on head Hoonigan himself Block to close out the night.
This year the line-up is impressive, boasting as it does not only Ken Block in his 650bhp Ford Focus RX, but also teammate Andreas Bakkerud, Abu Dhabi Drift Allstars winner Steve Baggsy Baggioni, and two-time FIA World Rallycross champion (and 2003 World Rally Champion) Petter Solberg. Our man is on the ground in Greece covering the action, so we’ll be bringing you behind the scenes coverage very soon. For now, check out the LIVE STREAM above.
