German BMW tuner AC Schnitzer has worked its magic on the G8X BMW M4, tweaking performance and design
The G8X BMW M4 is a potent performance machine in standard form, but AC Schnitzer has decided to lift performance to the next level. With upgrades available on both the G83 M4 Convertible and G82 Coupe, the tuner is offering a host of upgrades to improve both aesthetics and performance.
As it’s early days for the new S58 twin-turbocharged straight-six, AC Schnitzer hasn’t developed any engine hardware upgrades just yet, but it’s still managed to liberate some extra power. Up 99bhp and 74lb ft over the standard M4 Competition, the firm’s most potent ECU tune boosts output to an impressive 602bhp and 553lb ft of torque – performance figures haven’t been disclosed, but expect a drop from the factory 3.9sec 0-100kph sprint and a minor improvement in the 290kph top speed. A lesser 582bhp tune is also available.
In addition to the lift in output, AC Schnitzer is offering its new RS coilover suspension system to improve high speed stability and drop ride height by up to 40mm front and rear. Should you want to save some cash, a spring kit is also available, dropping ride height by up to 20mm.
Also said to improve performance are a number of aerodynamic components, with a new front splitter claiming a 40kg downforce increase at 200kph, and a rear wing boosting it by up to 70kg on the coupe. Front canards, bonnet inserts, a more pronounced side skirt and a smaller rear spoiler are also available. Designed only for the convertible is a redesigned carbonfibre diffuser to lift aggression from the rear.
20-inch lightweight AC3 and AC1 wheels are on the options list too, available in gloss black and a variety of diamond cut finishes – these are wrapped in wider 285-section front and 295-section rear tyres for improved traction.
Inside, buyers can opt for a retrimmed steering wheel in perforated Nappa leather and black Alcantara with grey contrast stitching and a 12 ‘o clock marker setting it apart from an ordinary M Performance unit. Aluminium gearshift paddles, pedals and more are also available at an additional cost.
All components can either be purchased individually or as a kit, with the performance upgrades coming with a handy four-year warranty for peace of mind.
