Climb aboard a Porsche 917 being given a thrash around Laguna Seca. Oh, and try not to fall in love with the engine sound.
We’ll admit that posting a video that’s already three years old isn’t normally our style. When said video is an on-board lap of Laguna Seca in a Porsche 917 though, we’re willing to bend the rules a smidge.
Said museum model was just one of 50 Porsche heritage models to hit the track as part of the fourth Porsche Rennsport Reunion, the smorgasbord of which also included a 1973 Porsche 911 RSR (the winner of the last official Targa Florio), ‘Moby Dick’, and a 1960 Porsche Abarth-Carrera GTL, the only Porsche works entry at that year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Tempting as it is to delve deep into the history of the Porsche 917 and remind you of our own time with some legendary Le Mans winners, we’ll keep this light, and leave most of the talking to the flat-12 being given the beans in chassis #016. Crank up the speakers and enjoy this awesome 1970s soundtrack.
