Welcome to the latest Rennsport model from Audi to hit the sweltering shores of the Middle East. Say hello to a rather pumped up looking RS5 coupe! A bruiser of a car it most certainly is and it joins a rank of suitably mental Audis that have appeared recently. Namely the stonking TTRS and brain melting RS6. This is new ground for Audi in the Middle East, as there has never been three of Audi’s greatest on sale at the same time before. Exciting times for a brand well and truly on a role…
Let’s start with the good stuff. Rather than using the twin blown V10 found up front in the Audi RS6, the 5 uses an all new 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 with an ample 444bhp and 317lb ft of twist. You may not know this but the the engine is effectively the same as the motor found in the middle of the Audi R8 V10. Less a fifth of course, as apposed to a reworked version of the traditional Audi V8. And what an engine it is… So what better than to hop in the car and take it for a proper run to stretch its legs?
Friday morning, an RS5 and a full tank of go go juice. Even an early morning temp of 44.5 c wasn’t going to stop us having fun. So with good friend and the man behind the look and feel of the site, Leigh Evans, we hopped in the car with our bottles of water and camera gear initially bound for Masafi.
One of the strange pleasures of driving around the region is the almost certainly of stumbling over something awesome/silly on route. We had just passed through Al Dhaid, about 40 mins outside of Dubai, when we spotted this monster bouncing around in front of us. Tasteless, maybe, incredible work, definitely! Covered head to toe in airbrushed art it was certainly imposing and made the boring hack through the desert worth while. The humorous thing was he was just as interested in our RS5 as we were in his ego truck. After 5 mins of tracking him to get a good shot we dropped down a couple of cogs and disappeared down the road.

Great car and some great shots – I like the RS5 in red – the colour mark after some good slapping!
