The motor, which revs to a spine tingeling 8500rpm was well and truly let free over the baron desert scape.  It is strange to say that a car with well over 400bhp feels a touch flat running around town.  Keep it pinned though and let the motor spin… the engine is sonorous, smooth and loves to rev – in fact it needs to rev to feel anything like as fast as the figures suggest. Ring it’s neck though and boy does it feel fast!

We couldn’t help ourselves from having a quick pit stop for a cheeky banana.  I think the chap at the shop thought we were going to commit to a couple of kilos though.

Back on the road from our quick pit stop and the chassis was beginning to give its best. Audi have chosen the RS5 to showcase its new Quattro transmission, with the all new trick centre differential.

The unit which is super small, mechanically operated and has the ability to send up to 70% of torque to the front wheels (in certain circumstances you can tell) and 85% to the rear. Audi, the purveyors of systems like this claim it’s the best all-wheel drive sports car chassis on sale.  Yes it is superb and it surprised us with its inherent and very deep capability, but we know a couple of GTR owners that would refute that claim.
