Would you believe this is the new 2011 Bentley Continental GT? The second generation of the car that appeared in the early noughties and caused such a steer it even caught Bentley napping. Now look a bit harder – It is actually different.
If you look closely you will note that the metal has been stretched over the frame a bit tighter and there is now a strong design line across the front wings that rolls over the headlights and into the more-upright grille. There is now also LED running lamps to offend the people driving in front of you and round at the back there is the same Mulsanne inspired design queues and rear lights that wrap round into the wings.
The best bit though is that the big Conti gets a boost in power from its 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 engine, now hitting the heady heights of 567 horsepower. The engine also now has flexi fuel capability just like the Supersports. All of that power is fed through Bentley’s six-speed Quickshift transmission and to stop you inadvertently swapping ends with yourself when you deploy the weight of your right foot, the rear track is wider and the bias on the all-wheel-drive system is now 40/60 in favour of the rear (Perfect). So what does this all add up to? 0-100kmh? 4.6 seconds. Top speed? 318kph.
Oh and as you plant your right foot in the plush carpet, holding on for dear life, the infotainment system will keep a track of where you are going on Google Maps. Technology – Don’t you love it!
