Let’s get down to brass tacks. The new model – the third generation of the M6 – is powered by a 4.4l twin-turbocharged V8, churns out 560hp, throws out a 4.2s 0-100kph time and a 250kph top speed (electronically limited, of course). That, plus the new seven-speed M double clutch transmission should keep our speed freak DNA content for a while.

Then there’s some bits and bobs lying about the cabin, including Merino leather trim seats, M Drive buttons and the ConnectedDrive driver assist system. Check the outside, and you’ll find a carbon-fibre infused roof, lightweight 19” M alloys (or 20” double-spike M alloys if you’re feeling flush) and, of course, M badges adorning the rear quarter and doorsills. In case you’re curious, these new packages – courtesy of AC Schnitzer and Akrapovic, which along with Hamman have created some distinctive examples down the years – include an Evolution Exhaust System, which improves power and torque throughout the rev range, and a Kelleners-Sport Carbon Aerodynamic package, which offers up a heady dose of carbon fibre.
