While it’s all customary concept bells and whistles on the outside, the beating heart under the bonnet is another matter. We’re assured there’s a ‘high performance engine’ under there, but whether that’s the Z4’s twin-turbocharged straight-six or the M5’s 4.4l twin-turbocharged V8 (nothing wrong with ambition…) remains to be seen.

Now granted the Zagato coupe is just a hand-built one-off, but we wonder how much Bavarian arm-twisting would be required for someone to flick the ‘on’ switch to the production line? We’re willing to bet the crowds at the recent Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este event in Italy felt much the same way.
